Williams Thanks And Wishes Hughes Well

Blackburn Rovers chairman John Williams moved quickly to thank Mark Hughes for all that he did at Ewood Park and has wished him well for his time with Manchester City.

Whatever we might think about Hughes' decision to leave Ewood for Man City personally I do not feel this is the place for it (I mean this specific piece I've written but my own personal views will follow!!!), this is the place to merely thank Sparky for what he did and let Williams share his thoughts.

Williams told the Official Blackburn Rovers website: "We have enjoyed a first class, mutually beneficial relationship with Mark. He leaves the club in a strong position with three consecutive top ten finishes and an excellent squad of players.

"In turn, we have helped Mark to establish himself as one of the most sought after young British managers in the business, having previously had no club management experience.

"We wish him well. We would have liked him to stay on, but he made it clear he wanted a fresh challenge.

"Now our focus switches to the search for a successor. We have enjoyed eight years of success and stability with Graeme Souness and Mark and now it is important that we build on our strengths. We must make sure it is three successful appointments in a row
."

Good luck to Sparky, John Williams is VERY gracious in defeat (the losing Sparky) and rather than shouting and screaming he has acted in a dignified way.
Hughes Da Man
The only surprise really is that Mark has gone to Man City. What can Abramovich be thinking about? At the last shareholders meeting John Williams said that he thought "Mark would eventually outgrow the club (Rovers)". MH goes with our thanks and best wishes. It has been a wonderful 4 years. Who next? Big Sam has all the credentials. His track record with Academy players is not suited to us though. We like to see our youngsters develop. And we have some good ones. Marks greatest strength was spotting and developing talent. He will be so very difficult to replace. Man City ar so lucky.

So what are our choices? According to the voting currently: OTHER - who then? Strachan? NEWELL/SHEARER ummmm... would Al be hankering for the Toon job which comes up every 6 months? McLaren no. Souness no - too much arguing. Grant no. Ince - too risky. Saunders - forget that idea. That leaves Big Sam. The players at Horwich really rated him. Take Nolan as an example. Anxious times...
