Sparky On The Brink

Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes seems to be on the brink of leaving Ewood Park to take over at Manchester City after Rovers agreed a compensation fee with them, which allows them the chance to now talk with him.

We ALWAYS knew that one day the time would come when the extraordinary job that Hughes has done with Rovers would lead to him moving on to pastures new, and we mostly felt that it would be to Manchester. However, NO ONE expected it to be the blue half of it as now looks increasingly more likely after Rovers issued a statement confirming that a compensation amount (thought to be £5 million) has been agreed with Man City and he will now talk with them.

The club statement on the Official Blackburn Rovers Website read: "Blackburn Rovers can confirm that they have reached an agreement with Manchester City on compensation terms for Mark Hughes.

"As a consequence the club have given Manchester City permission to speak to Mark
."

Until Sparky goes we mustn't give up all hope but it's not looking promising at all now is it and even if he didn't go to Man City I personally think it could be VERY difficult for him to return to Ewood and carry on as our manager?!?!

Nothing is set in stone but the likelihood of Sparky still being in charge at Ewood next season seems to be draining away all the time. Once your heart in not completely where it should be it is hard to get this back, so even if he didn't get the Man City job could he come back to Ewood anyway?!?!

City suck - send him to SW6 we want hinm!

Bad times, looks as though he is going, and not sure we will find a suitable replacement really, going to be a long summer, cannot believe it, came way to early, i think if he rejects City though he will definitely be able to come back he will always be liked.

Being linked and actually accepting the links by wanting to talk to a club(s) are different things though aren't they. Once you start giving into the temptation of links asking to speak to clubs it shows that full commitment to the club is no longer fully there???

I hope he comes to us and not City.

I hope we make an approach for him quickly before he accepts the job at City. Come On Chels. Pull ya finger out and make it happen.

If Mark does leave, who will fill his boots? Much as I worship the guy, I don't think Shearer would be the man. If he showed any level of success the Toon would be scavenging for him and of course, he would go. Who does that leave? Big Sam. He DID work miracles at the Twotters. Who else is there?

...and I think now that Mark WILL go. He has been wonderful for us.

Not a done deal yet. That compensation package was always going to have to be in place before he could talk to City. Ferguson came out tonight and said he would be gone in 2 years and i still believe that is the job he really wants. Nelsen is right. It is just an interview and maybe this is his way of drawing out United to see if they want him for that job. Cant see him getting the United job if he goes to City or Chelsea and i dont care who he supports, the United job is the top job in football and we dont know what phone calls are been made behind the scenes.

Big Sam at Blackburn would be a good coup for your club, and I can't imagine why it couldn't happen.
RadioactiveD
I am of the opinion that Big Sam would be a step in the wrong direction. I was speaking to a Bolton fan (who re-assured me that it could be worse, we could be chasing Sammy Lee...) that our style of football will be "Chris...you hoof it Roque"...
Decimus Poole
i agree with you decimus, big sam is completely the wrong direction!! i would prefer paul ince, shearer or dick advocaat who i have heard mentioned but its a long shot!!!
Simon Garner Legend
Gary Johnson of Bristol City or Paul Ince for me.. failing that a foreign coach, I hear Ancelotti turned down Chelsea.... lol
MikeyGamst
Of the names mentioned I would go for Dick Advocaat. He has the 'pulling power' that Ince or Shearer won't have.

sparky just confirmed as city manager on a three year deal

Not a good day but lets keep the head up guys. He leaves us in a good state. Keep the blue flag flying high.
