Ooijer Thinking About Leaving Rovers?

Blackburn Rovers defender Andre Ooijer is talking up his chances of leaving Ewood Park this Summer.

The Dutch International is contracted to Rovers until next Summer (having only recently agreed a new contract) but he isn't happy with the prospect of not being a first team regular next season, so assuming what he is understood to have said is being portrayed in the right light, and is not a typical media attempt of making people believe what they want them to his time could be up after the European Championships, with him looking for a move away, probably back to the Netherlands?

Ooijer told Sportweek: "I appreciated it then (his new contract) but, a moment later, I was sat on the bench.

"I am not happy about that.

"I do not wish to continuously sit on the bench.

"You should never say very strongly: 'I want away'.

"I have talked with Sigi Lens, my agent, and agreed that I would concentrate on the European Championship and the rest is up to him.

"Sigi knows what I want. Back to Holland? I have not thought about it - there will be a price-tag on my head.

"Again, I'm not saying I want to go down that road.

"I am open to another club, even though it was necessary that I always said 'no' immediately."

My feelings with any player that is unhappy at the club (if Ooijer even is?!?!) is that they should be allowed to leave, so if this is what Ooijer would really want then I don't think we should stand in his way.

If Ooijer wants to go we should let him. I think he is a good defender and despite a difficult beginning to life with Rovers has proved himself the quality defender that he is, but he isn't getting any younger and probably wouldn't be a first choice next season so his going could see one of our youngsters such as Eddie Nolan given more chance.

Yer let him big teams from his Dutch division are interested, so maybe get a bit of money for him too. Been a great player when needed saved us last season when we didnt have Nelsen and hadnt signed Samba yet. Still was great this season when used a great person, should let him leave though last few years of his career, should be allowed to play football.

I think we are prob right to let him go if we get the right money. Great shout that as well Del. ooijer has proven to be as quality defender as we expected as HDM said.

Great shout indeed del. I like Ooijer but he is replaceable. I for one rate The Monk higher than him but we will have to see what materialises.

I rate the Monkinator as well. He got dropped for no reason last year!!!

As Hughes favours Samba and Nelson, it will be hard for any centre half to break into the team. Hughes stuck with Samba even when he was going through a bad patch. The only look in Ooijer and Zurab got was when either one, or both, were injured. I will be saddened if he goes. I do like him.

That is indeed the case but if Samba is a bit shaky like last year then Hughes should do the same as he did with McCarthy. Put Zurab in and show him he needs to raise his game.

I think we could do without Oojier, he's got good poistional play but a bit like Hyypia he's done for pace, which is important in the Premier League and especailly at riteback where Hughes played him a lot. We have kids with talent in the reserves if needed. I agree with Zurab still there we have the quality to fill in, if we get money for Andre then i'll pack his bags for him

I would love to see Oojier at Fulham. He's a good Defender and a good replacement for the departed Bocca

He looked very good against Wales on sunday. He played at right back and spent most of the time in or around the welsh box, but then he moved to Centre back when Heitenga got subbed. He has got pace, believe it or not guys!
