Hughes On Red Alert For Scholes And Giggs

Blackburn boss Mark Hughes has been made aware of the possible availability of Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes after the Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson admitted the veteran midfield pair will eventually be 'phased out' at Old Trafford.

Hughes has already publicly stated he would be interested in the Welsh winger and the pass master, should they be made avaiable for transfer this summer, and Ferguson's frank statement may speed up their exits.

Speaking in the wake of United's dramatic Champions League shootout win, Ferguson said to Sky Sports: 'Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs are in the twilights of their careers and they will still contribute in a big way next season, as they normally do, but they won't play as many games.

'They will eventually be phased out, which is what you have to do in this life. Ryan will be 35 in November, Paul will be 34, and they will play 25 to 30 games next season, because we have the back-up - we have the young players now.'

I am sure Ferguson would like to keep both of them but will Paul and Ryan accept such a paltry amount of games? Watch. This. Space.

Interesting stuff. I wouldnt mind either of these at the Park. especially Scholes.

Add another year and they could both be knackered!! We could get lumbered with another Dwight Yorke - crap player seeing out his career on high wages. Not that I would question either of their attitudes as they have both been immense in Utd's dominence, but I think most people would know what I mean. I would however take both of them now.
Wellsy
For a year surely they would be great???

Dont see it happening myself, I think both would like to see out their careers at Old Trafford even if that means less football next season.

no on giggs he has been poor this season and is not as quick as he used to be but i would go with scholes even now his passing is better than anyone else in the league, 89.7% of his passes are successful!

Cant ever see this happening but if we are to buy from United how about Chris Eagles and Frazier Campbell. Two young hungry talented players who could be bought for reasonable money. Please not Fletcher. I do not rate him at all plus we have enough work horses in the middle of the park

Would be a great couple of signings if you could sign them even if it were on one year deals. Maybe the old pals act can bear some fruit here.

Both of those players are not of the right calibre IMO del... think we need to aim high.

Two world-class performers who are real legends but they'll finish their days at Manure.

I doubt the 2 will leave United.
