Rovers Release Players

Mark Hughes has released Peter Enckelman, Stephane Henchoz and Bruno Berner as he begins preparations for next season, reports the Lancashire Telegraph.

Whilst their release will come of nothing of a shock to the VBer community, it leaves Peter Enckelman without a club after helping Cardiff reach its first FA Cup Final in over 80 years. Regardless of his Cup Final blunder, he performed sterling work for them since joining them on loan in January in a bid to earn regular first-team action.

Enckelman joined Rovers from Aston Villa in January 2004, yet he had made just two Premier League appearances, much in part to the amazing fitness and consistency of Brad Friedel.

Stephane Henchoz, first signed by Roy Hodgson in the late 1990's, left to join Liverpool before eventually being picked up on a free by Rovers, via Wigan, two seasons ago, failed to make a single appearance this season. The VBER community feared it was down to the fact that he always looks knackered but with the emergence of Samba, along with Ooijer and Zurab as the main backups to the first team, left 'Hedgehog' out in the cold.

Bruno Berner, signed for Rovers in January 2007 and made 2 appearances that season. After impressing in pre season, it was thought that he had forced his way into Hughes' thinking for the first team, only for injury to rule him out of the start of the season. Berner never recovered and only managed 4 appearances this season and only 2 in the league, one which will live long in many Rovers fans memory for all the wrong reasons (Arsenal anyone?).

I am sure I speak for all the VBer community when I thank them for their efforts at Blackburn and wish them all good luck for the future.

Good luck to them all. I can only presume Henchoz will retire and take up coaching somewhere...

De-Vita was also released. Hope it's not the "Beattie/S. Given sort of story"- where he'll become a really good player outside Ewood Park. As for Henchoz- I remember his first game in 97-98 season, where he's never seemed to know how to get a good header at the ball. After that he became, in my opinion, one of the smartest defenders I've ever seen. Cheers

WOW, so Raf didnt cut the mustard eh? shame but I know theres one lad in the reserves in red hot form and thats Alan Judge so maybe he will be the next to step up. Nice catch Israeli!

Well the 3 players relaeased that were, well maybe, the fringes of the 1st team, will free up some wages for other players coming in!! Didnt know about De Vita thats not the greatest news as he looked quite good, but heh Hughes knows better than us i suppose

Good luck to all the players released - I was half hoping Cardiff won so that I could brag that a Rovers player lifted the FA cup this season... nevermind.

fair play to all 3 of them. Especially Enks, he was second fiddle for 4 years and never once complained. Good luck to all of them.
