Warnock Called Up By England

Blackburn Rovers left-back Stephen Warnock has been recalled to the England squad.

Warnock has been in superb form for Rovers since he signed from Liverpool in January 2007 and has earned a recall to the squad for the first time since he was selected as a Liverpool player under Sven Goran Eriksson.

The fact that he never made it into Steve McClaren's England squads at all surprised many people, but now his efforts for Rovers over the past 14-months or so have been rewarded with a call-up by Fabio Capello for the International friendlies with the USA and Trinidad and Tobago at the end of this month, and the start of next month.

Stevie W is the second Rovers player in the squad, with David Bentley once again named in the squad, which is a 31-man one.

This is great news and I think Warnock fully deserves it... however, will the squad be trimmed down by a few players before the friendlies?

Great news for Stevie and well deserved. However, I think he will probably get the chop when Capello trims his squad!

This is great news for Warnock, its shows that all his hard work and all over game has been rewarded, shows he was rite to leave Liverpool. It should also serve as a wake up call to Bentley and show that although he is not playing in the Champions League with Rovers that his International asperations are still very much alive whilst playing with us!! the grass is not always greener as he and his time at Arsenal bore witness

Agreed Clint. I think Bentley has played all but one game for us in the Prem this season as has Warnock - these big moves aren't always the best.... just ask peter crouch

a thoroughly deserved call up for Mr.W... I hope he makes an impression as there have been few better in his position than him this season.

Warnock has done more than the likes of Wayne Bridge who gets into the England team based solely on the fact hat he sometimes plays for Chelsea! Ashley Cole has somehow become a worse player at Chelsea when compared to how he was at the Gunners and Shorey hasnt really had a chance to see wot he's like with England. Warnock has played well enough to get in and thats not just the biased view of a Rovers fan!!
