Olsson Targeting A Regular First-Team Spot

Blackburn Rovers youngster Martin Olsson is targeting a place as a first-team regular next season.

Olsson, a product of the Rovers Academy who signed a new four-year contract last week has started making inroads into the first-team over the past 12-months and is now targeting becoming more of a first-team regular next season, but in order to do that he will have to do battle with Stephen Warnock (who was also rewarded with a new contract) for the left-back berth.

Olsson told the Lancashire Telegraph: "I'm very happy to have signed a new deal; it is what I've been working hard for, to get a contract with the first team.

"I've been doing well, I've been working hard, and now I'm delighted to get that first-team contract.

"I've been in the squad a lot of times, and on the bench too in some games, so my aim for next season is to be more involved and play more first-team games.

"I'm learning all the time in training and I'm delighted that the manager has shown this faith in me
."

19-year-old Under-21 Swedish International Olsson was named the Rovers Young Player of the Year on Sunday, at the annual Rovers Awards night.

I've always been a big fan of Olsson's and backed him to make a breakthrough sooner, rather than later so it will be interesting to see how he is used next season as he could play as a left-back or left-sided midfielder.

i hope he does feature next season. we need some1 putting pressure on warnock and pedersen. since peter not given a decent change and berner disapearing off the face of the earth!
Vintige
Good point Vintige, it is important that we have competition for places, especially on the left where Warnock & Pedersen are in a real comfort zone, and have been all season. Still, I have'nt seen enough of this Olsson guy yet but I hope he can challenge them in the coming seasons.

I think Olsson will flit between the two left sided roles, think he may be suited better to left back but it would be nice to see if he can pressure Gamst, who in my opinion really needs a kick up the arse!! Maybe we'll see him on Sat?!?!
Clint
He'll get his chance, and still young so will get better.

lol berner, lets never mention him again, as for sat, i dont think so clint, its a must win for us, unless we hear the bad news that villa are pumping west ham lol. Can some1 confirm for me that villa have indeed applied for intertoto lol
