McCarthy Misses Savage Spirit

McCarthy Misses Savage Spirit

Even though Blackburn Rovers striker Benni McCarthy admits that technically Robbie Savage was the worst footballer he had ever seen he admits that Rovers miss his presence.

Prior to Robbie Savage returning to Ewood Park with his new club Derby Country (a match Rovers won 3-1) McCarthy couldn't resist a little tongue in check dig at Savage, but concedes that his presence at the club is missed.

McCarthy told The Sun (on Saturday): "We miss his spirit and commitment even though technically he is the worst player I have ever seen in my life - and he knows it.

"He has no skill at all. We all have more skill than him. But he works awfully hard for the team and it makes us work even harder.

"Even when the chips were down, he always seemed to make everyone laugh - including the manager.

"He had a dig at everyone and that is the part we miss the most.

"Sav is a fantastic boy and the dressing room has gone awfully quiet since he left.

"It is still exciting, it is fun - but Stinky is not there.

"With him in the side, he makes us work a bit harder which is always good. So we are looking forward to having our old players back.
"

Savage will always be welcomed back to Ewood when he does return, as he was on Saturday afternoon.

Sav is certainly a character and he has been missed for that, he is also a better footballer than a lot of people think, but I don't think he has been missed that much. He was given a good reception, and I'm sure this will ALWAYS be the case whenever he returns (if he will again?!?!)

I was so pleased that he got a round of applause. I was in my seat playing cheerleader!!! We all miss Sav of that I am sure.

Bit cheeky of Benni, wonder what Sav thought of these comments. Still the players looked as though they liked Sav still, bit of a incident with Vogel though.

Its funny that before Savage comes to your club you dont rate him, then if he signs and you actually watch him and wot he does, only then do u appreciate the kind of footballer he is, yes he's a mouth-piece and yeah not the best footballer in the world but its the work he puts in for the team, spoiling play, probably with some clumsy challenge but heh if it works not knock it lol I think Rovers did miss him for a bit after Jan, but Vogel has come in and is settling well for next season, so I hope Savage does well with Derby in the Championship and i'll def be keeping a check on him & them in the papers.
