'If It's Football, It's Vital'

So Long As It Was A "One Off" It Would Be OKAY

Vital Blackburn's most recent Poll, suggested by Hughes Da Man asked "How damaging would missing out on the UEFA Cup be to Rovers?" A one off would be acceptable.

Rovers are still just about in the hunt for a UEFA Cup place next season (via the Intertoto Cup), but this is looking like it could be to much to ask but we'll keep fighting. However, should we miss out so long as it is a one off occurrence then 56% think that this will be OKAY, whereas 26% think it'll be a blow but we'll rise above it.

The final 18% think that the consequences could be far graver and failure to secure a UEFA Cup spot for the 2008-2009 Season (even via the Intertoto) could result in key players leaving.

So in summary
A blow but we'd rise above it - 26%
Key players would leave as a result - 18%
So long as it was a "one off" it would be OKAY - 56%

The current poll, suggested by The Rovers Players is asking, "Man of the Match v Portsmouth?"

The players are committed, or at least appear to be so AS LONG as they show this commitment IF (and we might not yet!!!) we miss out on Europe next Season this will be the time to show this TRUE commitment.

Can't see you making it now, surely 5th and 6th is between Everton and Villa? Maybe Pompey if the final doesn't distract them?
The Fear
Villa have applied for the Intertoto Cup haven't they, so Rovers would have to hope Villa lose both matches, which seems unlikely?!?!
Hughes Da Man
the problem is, there will be 8 teams (at least) competing for europe next season - and only 4 places maximum! you cant just view it as a "one off" not getting in, as i have a feeling quite a lot of teams will be disopointed again next season. ...only one solution...give the PL an extra uefa cup place (or 2)

In previous seasons when the top four won all the trophies the UEFA places fell down to 6th, 7th and intertoto 8th - Spurs winning the league cup has done us no favours!

If the european spots worked out how they did last year then we would be hot on the trail of one of the spots but it has been different this year (obviously). I think we have made progress and missing out this year might actually BENEFIT us in the long run.

Thats what I said a while back - also being out of the other cup competitions early probably helped us... we need a bigger squad if we want to successfully compete in the league and cups. However if we are not going to enlarge and strengthen our squad then the league should be the priority. ( In my humble opinion!)

It has been one of the toughest League's in A LONG time, so I totally agree that progress has been made. We just have to hope the players feel the same way and still retain their love for Rovers with or WITHOUT UEFA Cup football?!?!
