Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes has spoken about his frustration at the performance of Alan Wiley during Rovers' 3-1 defeat at Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
Hughes believes that Wiley should've sent off Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel for a foul on Jason Roberts when the score was 1-0 to the Reds, as he feels that Roberts was clean through. Instead he only branded a yellow card, which visibly frustrated JR and other Rovers players (Stephen Warnock went as far as saying Wiley bottled it!!!)
Hughes is quoted as saying: "I've seen Jason Roberts get the ball out of his feet and go away from centre- halves and have shots on goal so it`s a clear goal- scoring opportunity from our point of view.
"If you're impeded when it's a clear goal-scoring opportunity, my understanding is that the guy gets sent off. Mr Wiley felt it merited a yellow card but that wasn't my interpretation of it.
"I think it's fair to say there was a bit of frustration from both camps about Mr Wiley's performance. I didn't think he had a particularly good game."
Although Sparky was clearly frustrated at the decisions made (or not) by Wiley, these were decisions that he says would've frustrated both sides, however, he also went on to again conceded that it wasn't down to Wiley that Rovers did lose, which is true.
He added: "That wasn't the reason we were beaten but there were key moments in the game that could have had a bearing on the outcome.
"In the end, we created our own problems by conceding goals that could have been avoided, overplaying in the wrong areas, losing possession when we could have cleared our lines, missing tackles and getting done on one-twos."
