Weekends Winners And Losers

Hello all, well I've got a corking hangover this morning so sit steady for that Mini Tour update as it was a good day out even if in the end we were clearly defeated.

Anyway, good game on the whole and some interesting talking points and some world class springboard diving from Steven Gerrard. Great player, complete moron.

So who were the winners and losers. As usual these are based on performances for the week. Lets get stuck in....

WINNERS

RYAN NELSEN -
Yes I'm biased and yes I don't care. Since he has come back from injury we have looked all the more steady at the back. If Ryan wasn't in there yesterday we would of conceded 5/6 in the end as Ryan made 3 crucial tackles. You can see the confidence coming back into the defence but the fatigue has set in.

This defence at the start of the season was a treat and it will be again next year.

And God will be the leader of the pack and rightly so.

DAVID DUNN -Didn't have a good game by any means but it was the performance of Johan Vogel that showed why we missed a fully fit Dunny yesterday. We would of had more presence, more surging runs and a competitor for Steven Gerrard in the midfield HAD Dunn been in there.

The sooner he gets back in shape and back on the pitch the better.

Whilst we're here... can we please sign a young and inspiring central midfielder in the summer please??? We have £10 million to spend and can I suggest we spend a bulk of that on what I have just mentioned.

MORTEN GAMST -I'll keep this pretty short but Morten was our best attacking player yesterday. He hit a woeful drive into the stand in the second half but what people missed was in the lead up to that shot he surged past 2 Liverpool defenders and looked menancing through out.

The left foot is back and we're better off in the long run for it.

LOSERS

BRETT EMERTON -
I can think of one unhappr Aussie who will not be happy at putting Brett here but if ou cant ell me why he doesn't deserve to be in here then I'm happy to listen.

From what I saw he missed 5 basic passes and was caught of position a bit too often. It doesn't matter when that happens against lower placed teams but it does when your playing Liverpool.

He is a heck of a lot better than this and is stll my number one choice at right back...

But he needs to recognise his limitations in that position before he can make it his own.

CHRIS SAMBA -Please Chris take a rest for 2 games or so. You need it, we need it and we are strong at centre back in terms of numbers. At full pelt and full fitness he is a monster.

I love you Chris but you're inconsistencies are costing us points and it is only because it's been a long hard season and you need a rest.

BRAD FRIEDEL - He did absolutely nothing wrong and had no chance with any of the goals but he must despair sometimes at what goes on in front of him. We are very very lucky that the Premier League's best goalkeeper is loyal to us because we need him.

If he had any hair left he would of been ripping out yesterday.

Mike Mini Tour coming up soon guys. Was a good atmoshpere yesterday and the standing ovation for Stephen Warnock was well deserved.

Lets ee what you make of this weeks Winners and Losers.

Id say somethin bout Emo, but i didnt watch the game, still your wrong lol disgraceful hehehe.
sasman
all good choices mikey, nelsen was our best player but that wasnt hard considering the performance. sorry sas but emo was terrible i knew he would start as sparky was trying to counteract the pace of babel but id have startes ooijer there he is far more accomplished when it comes to defending! and a big here here on the samba and new midfielder comments!
durks de rover
Again Mr Mikey I think you've hit the nail on the head with what you say about most, if not all.
Hughes Da Man
i dont agree with most of this here 2day! i think bentley should be a loser this week, had a good free kick narrowly miss the back of the net and strung afew good passes, but was poor, possibly because he was playing CM, i think pedersen was one of our poorer players, winner defo vogel, he played superbly and i think stevie warnock had a very solid game! gerrard was just tooo good for us yesterday, frustratingly as i had travelled all the way from sunny sussex to be there, and am repeating the trip this weekend coming too, going to all the games left, shame it seems like were gradually losing grip on any meaningfulness upon our league position now!! victory over united would be nice!!

Ill stick my oar in too! I thought Emo did well, considering, for the most part of the game he was up against Babel AND Aurelio. Had we had Ooijer in there, They wouldve had a field day down the left. That said, he is still susecptible to positional mistakes and we STILL need to address a position that has been problematic for OVER 18 MONTHS! Bentley was very disapointing in the middle of the park, as was Vogel but we can excuse Vogel for the most part due to te lack of games. If Capello (Or Benitez, if rumour is to believed) was harbouring thoughts of moving him inside for England, then I think they may need to think again, he was anonamous. Same for Stephen Reid, another poor game IMO, he was poor last time out in the middle and had very little impact on the game and was equally poor against Liverpool, he offered very little going forward and wasnt that keen to get back and help poor old Emo out. POSITIVES from the game, Santa looked sharp but him and Roberts are like Starving little ethiopians, feeding off scraps, I bet they would love a little more service to dine on, Pedersen was OK in the 2nd half but, much like Reid and Bents, did very little in the first. Friedal and God were impeccable as usual although I thought Stevie Wee wasnt upto his usual stellar self and did very little raiding down the wing, maybe he is also in need of a rest, much like Samba. McCarthy made an impact to be fair to him but both him and Dunn has too much to do to make any inroads on that result. I have to say, I am not looking forward to the Visit of Man Ure at all.
BomBom
i agree with ur first part bombom, the rest is just history lol
sasman
Bloomin heck Bommy... thats quite a post. I will say that Vogel was poor and certainly wasnt anything to crow about. And the visit of Man U could be just what we need.... a result when you least expect it.
MikeyGamst
sorry bom while i can see where you come from with the majority of your post i cant agree with the emo bit. i thought he was awful in every regard, he was out of position all day, his passing well lets just say it wasnt very good at all and ooijer is not as slow as people make out and i feel would have done a better job defensively then emo did.
durks de rover
Thanks durks, thanks very much lol
sasman
i calls it as is sees it, sasman
durks de rover
lol thats the way we like it durks... dont worry about Sas, tinted glasses that boy!!! lol
