Praise For Rovers Debutant Vogel

Blackburn Rovers midfielder Johann Vogel came in or his Rovers debut against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday and Mark Hughes was impressed with his display.

The 31-year-old Swiss International has been short of matches over the past 10 months, but the March FREE agent signing came in for his Rovers debut against Tottenham in the 1-1 draw on Saturday and lasted the full 90 minutes, much to Hughes' pleasure, with Sparky also believing that this will leave him in a good position ahead of the next match with Liverpool.

Hughes told the Official Blackburn Rovers Website: "I thought, given the amount of time that he has been out of the game, that it was an exceptional performance.

"He kept going and I didn't really expect him to last the 90 minutes, but that will stand him in good stead.

"I think it is important that we expose him to the Premier League and certainly we did in the opening 20 minutes because the pace and movement of Spurs gave everybody a problem, not just Johann.

"I thought he came to terms with the pace and what was needed very quickly and that is a credit to him.

"He wasn't really flagging at the end and that is a credit to his professionalism and how he has looked after himself during the time he has been out, so he'll become better and stronger for it
."

I was a bit surprised that Vogel started against Spurs, but it has soon become apparent as to why Sparky was happy enough to give him a contract after his trial, but we already knew what a quality player he was didn't we.

A bit surprised myself, but I guess it's important that he gets as much exposure to the Premier League as possible before the season ends.

He looked a bit lost for about 20 mins at the start but after that he looked good and comfortbale with what was going on. Very encuraging that he didnt look tired after 90 mins... more of that and we're onto a winner.
