Henchoz Fancies Management

Blackburn Rovers defender Stephane Henchoz is beginning to plan for a future after his playing career.

Many had wondered what had happened to Henchoz, but he is still around at Ewood Park he has just been plagued by injury this season and has (I must confess I didn't know this myself!!!) had two operations on his knee already this season, but he is on the verge of a comeback and hopes to get some reserve matches under his belt before the end of the season.

The former Switzerland International is out of contract in the summer, and is highly unlikely to be offered a new contract (but you never know), however, Hedgehog is already planning for a future when his playing days do end, as he will be starting working towards his coaching badges next week as he does quite like the idea of going into management.

Henchoz told BBC Your Game: "I've been injured since September, (I've had) two operations and it did not go well at all.

"I'm hoping to be back in first-team training next week, and then it's nearly the end of the season so I will try to get back and play a few reserve games in April and then see what happens.

"But I'm starting a coaching badge next week with some lads at Blackburn, but that takes a couple of years to do that. Then maybe, if the opportunity comes, why not try management?
"

I wish Hedgehog well, and feel sure he could achieve what he wants as he has played under some of the best managers around so is sure to have picked up plenty of tips on the way.
I don't think we will see him here as a Rovers player next season, but it wouldn't surprise me if he carries on playing for another year or two.

He was very intelligent during his playing days knowing where to place himself and as I have met him in person he is a gentleman but does mangement require them?

Yep it must be tough when you're getting older and getting injured. I hope he gets his coaching badges and wish him the best of luck with a future career in management. I'm not sure if he would get back into our team at present, but you never know whats round the corner.

I too must confess to knowing nothing about his current plight. Alas I wish him well because he has always been a committed player and decent bloke. Perhaps he may get a contract here as a player coach - wouldn't be a bad move for both parties i predict!

Oh the poor hedgehog, and we were thingking he was stuffing down the pies lol

Sure why not, he's played in the big cmpetitions in Europe under some unbelievable managers, has won leagues and cups, played with some of the better players in Europe, so he must have picked a bit somewhere, it would be hard not too lol Good luck to the lad and as for his contract im sure he mite be useful to have around for another yr at least, just for cover, which im sure he would settle for

This is a good plan for Henchoz. This way he doesnt have to do quite as much running lol... in all seriousness I hope he does well as he always gives 100% when on the field.

He might be one of those 'sitting' managers... I'm not sure if he'd be able to cover all of his technical area in 90 minutes!
