Bentley A Different Class

Bentley A Different Class

Blackburn Rovers midfielder David Bentley is on course to collect the Man of the Match Award against Wigan Athletic, and rightly so.

The right-winger, who has been superb for Rovers since he joined us from Arsenal, is getting better and better ALL the time. He might not have explosive pace (which if he did he would be rated as one of the VERY best footballers in the world) but his delivery is as good as anyone's, if not better than that of anyone else currently playing the game!!!

Bentley retained his place in the England squad when it was trimmed to 23 players on Saturday evening and there is little doubt that he SHOULD start the International friendly with France on Wednesday night, something that Sky Sports pundit Paul Walsh also believes.

Walsh told Sky Sports Soccer Saturday: "David Bentley in fairness was the difference throughout the whole game.

"I think when Fabio Capello gets his report back on him it will make good reading.

"If he's looking to play him in the first place and he's got that report back from today, he's got to start. Every time he got on the ball something good happened.

"For the first goal, the ball was stiffed into him fairly firmly, but he took it, turned quite nicely and got a shot off. It moved quite a lot but I've got to be critical of (Chris) Kirkland because he got his hands to it but he only pushed it up in the air and Santa Cruz - who was the other difference in the game - anticipated well and got there first as it dropped to put it in
."

Rovers are trying to tie Bents down to a longer term contract, and remain confident that they can but newspaper reports on Sunday were suggesting that Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is watching Bents with the view to making a £12 million move for him in the summer, with Athletic Bilbao also keeping tabs on him with the hope of luring him to Spain. So it looks as though we have a battle on our hands to keep him this summer but we MUST win this battle!!!

Bents IS a different class and is going from strength to strength. It is VITAL that we tie him down to a longer term contract, whatever thought we MUST NOT lose him this summer at ALL costs!!!

Looks like pool might offer 12 mill and jermaine pennant, make it 40 mill and its a deal lol. With berbatov commanding up to a 30 mill pound transfer fee, surely bents can at least match that. Il tell them where to stick the 12 mill!!!!

Sometimes these valuations that are put on players make me laugh. Bentley is one of the hottest properties in the Premiership at the moment and has the potential to be one of the best right sided midfielders in the division. The funny thing is Sas, if he was a Spurs player, £30m is exactly the kind of figure people would be talking about. But since he plays for 'poor old Blackburn Rovers'.....£12m...what a f_cking insult!!!

Agreed spinaker. Ridiculous valuation. Darren Bent is apparently worth 16 million. So BEnts is worth £12million??? pathetic. I would ask for £20 million minimum.

Having said that I am not suggesting for a second that we should sell him... keep him at all costs.

Must pull out all the stops to keep Bents. No point in having someone who can head a ball like Santa Cruz and having someone who cant cross a ball to save their life (Lennon,Pennant). As for 12 million I think someone is just guessing here because any English player can command top transfer fees nowadays. At least 25 million for Bents considering Downing is valued around 12 million.

I think that the transfer fee is also based on how many years a player has left on their contract - so if Dave has 3 years he will be more expensive than someone who has one say.

Also depends on how long you have been good...1 season, maybe, maybe if he gets another good season under his belt he may be worth 15-20 million? Goalscorers are the most valuable players it is a fact, I bet you wished you guys sold Pedersen for the 12 milllion odd you were offered as he must be worth 7 million tops now, How things can change;)

thats true cockeril but gamst will come good again in fact he is looking a little better these days (only a little though) but he is still worth a few bob (a truly two footed player who can take a mean dead ball is always worth a few million) but bents will have the englishman tax attached to his transfer when he goes which is worth another few million anyway! plus there isnt that many teams in need of a right winger well clubs who ca afford him anyway, once again Mr Hughes i salute you!

Sure why would Bents want to go to the revolving door that is Liverpool?? I would have to agree that £12m is a bit on the cheap side, after all Bent went to Spurs for more to sit on their bench and from a Championship side as well, so I would think more nearer £18 - £20m whould be better to start with!!

Championship Cost Per Goal So Far In 2016/17

The end of the Championship campaign of 2016/17 is only a month and a bit away from fans across the country but as we go in to the remaining weeks of the campaign...

Positive Signs For Bennett

Bennett was positive of Blackburn being able to see off Lancashire rivals Preston heading into this game at Ewood Park after the Norwich and Fulham results.

Minor Graham Setback

Blackburn had to do without Danny Graham against Preston following the groin problem that forced him off against Fulham last week. He could return against Brighton next week.

Hugely Frustrating

Mowbray admitted Blackburn didn't start the game well against Preston but had then been the dominant side so was 'majorly disappointed' not to record a victory.
