Vogel Signs Contract With Rovers

Blackburn Rovers have completed the signing of free agent Johann Vogel.

The 31-year-old was released by Real Betis in December 2007, and has been a free agent since. He came to Ewood Park at the beginning of March to undergo a trial and after impressing Mark Hughes he has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract, with the option of a further year.

Swiss International Vogel has played for Grasshoppers, PSV Eindhoven and AC Milan (as well as Betis) in his distinguished career and now tries his hand in England for the first time, although he was linked with Manchester United and Everton a few years back.

A legal dispute with Betis made the midfielder a free agent, and Rovers have beaten off reported interest from Sunderland to sign the star, who will be hoping to play in the European Championships in the summer, which are jointly hosted by his home nation Switzerland.

This could be the singing that gives us that added boost to claim the European place we so desperately want next season. This is YET another superb Sparky signing.

I'll echo those sentiments. He has the quality and will fill the role that we need right now to give our midfield extra bite! Great bit of business and Hughes must have been sure he can have an impact as he has offered him a 2 and a half year deal!

He'll prove to be a good addition to the midfield, he has quality and hopefully he can show that this season, I agree with Sasman in saying that it may be a little too late for Europe this season, losing against West Ham was a joke but not as bad as the draw against Fulham!!

he's played for good teams now he's come to play for hte best...he is suppose to be a good distributer of the ball also..we will see..

hes similar mould as tugay from what ive seen of him! hold the ball well good technique not much pace but with a sharp tackle! perfect replacement for savage and maybe in the long run for tugay!and hes been pretty good in championship manager series COME ON VOGEL show us why milan invested in you :D

Well if hes good on champ man then he must be good!!! lol nice one rikin. In all serousness though this will give the squad a little lift and from what I have seen from him he is technically very sound and tackles well. Good move this. Well done Sparky.

In his day there were not many players of his type better than him, his type of quality is never lost, it might have just wondered away for a bit but if ANYONE can get the best out of him again Sparky will, and I have NO doubts that he will, be that this season or next season.
