Hughes: We Don't Have To Sell

Hughes: We Don't Have To Sell

Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes is adamant that failure to secure a European place next season WONT mean that Rovers will have to sell players.

Hughes has admitted that failure to gain a place in next seasons UEFA Cup WILL severely hamper his chances of signing some players that he would've wanted, but INSISTS that missing out on Europe next season DOESN'T mean that players have to be sold.

Hughes told the Lancashire Telegraph: "There will always be interest in the better players at your club.

"That's part and parcel of being manager; you always know that speculation is going to be there.

"But all our key players are basically contracted for the next two or three years, and we are not a selling club.

"If I feel there is a deal to be done, and it benefits Blackburn Rovers, then we do it.

"But we don't have to sell anyone
."

HOPEFULLY we will make the UEFA Cup (even if this means via the Intertoto Cup route) so we wont need to worry if this will be an issue anyway!!!

Players are under contract, and hopefully IF we don't make the UEFA Cup (which we still have a VERY good chance of doing) players that have been saying how happy they are to be here will be saying the same regardless?!?! I have a few worries and doubts though.

I have my concerns as failure to secure Europe could see some wanting to try elsewhere. Still, we'll see. We don't have to sell so bids will have to be premium bids to prise our stars away. However, I think Vogel could be the boost we need!

apparantly the next highest english club has the option of entering the intertoto cup from round 1, sure thats 2 extra round, and means a month start even earlier. But its a option. No english team has taken this option for a while, meaning the players only get a 1 month break

The main players who Rovers are trying to tie down are 1) Pederson - no offense but get rid and get Risse b4 he goes to Newcastle lol 2) McCarthy - I would use his money to buy a younger hungrier player and 3) Bentley - we HAVE to keep him, sell the other 2 and bump up his wages lol. Now b4 anyone has a go this is my opinion and i do beleive they are all good players, Pederson has had a shocking season and a half and McCarthy just at times does not look interested in playing at Rovers, I think he still has that 'im better than the club mentallity'

I fairly agree with Clint. In fairness to Pedersen I think he has been better recently, but Benni is still not back to his best and now the wrong side of 30 it is questionable whether he will get back to his best. Bents has to stay but if he does go, surely we would be looking for 15+ million, he's worth at least that!!

Keep them all - we need to build a squad. Also if we don't need to we shouldn't sell until we have replacements.

We dont need to sell but I was thinking that Pederson and McCarthy could command a healthly transfer each and im sorry but if they play next season like they have this season then Rovers are not a team that can afford to carry players, we need all 11 players on the pitch playing as a team! I would like to keep Pederson as on his day he is one the best wingers in the Premier League but a couple of good games with a goal at the end of the season shouldnt earn u another big money contract! He has to play every game like that. Bents wont leave as the only real choice he has is Liverpools rotation system, not getting a game at Chelsea and the Toon Army lol please!!

We need to bear in mind for all 3 we would get good money (great money for Bents) but I dont think we should sell any of them. And Hughes clearly agrees. Build a squad not dismantle it.

If we had a transfer fund of 6 or 7 million and we raised another 10 through sale of players then i think we should go for it. We could bring in 3 or 4 good players to freshen up the squad plus we should bring through some youth players. Surely we have 2 or 3 that are ready to come in. Plus if we got in to the intertoto in the first round then lets be honest the opposition is not going to be top quality and we could use the second legs of these games to blood these games to blood these youngsters
