Intertoto a-go-go

Intertoto a-go-go

With the sweetness of seeing United and Chelsea crash out of the FA Cup comes the bitter realisation that 6th spot in the Prem isn't going to guarantee UEFA footy next year, but instead a spot in the Intertoto Cup.

This isn't bad news on it's own, in that the Intertoto games seemed to give us a competitive edge when the Premiership started this time around. However, it does mean that it's going to be harder to get there. Beating Villa is now a must, and no mean feat at that.

Fulham last week was a huge blow to us. 2 points dropped big time, and we need to pick things up from here on in. March and May give us a potential 15 points, as we have West Ham (A), Wigan (H), Reading (A), Derby (H), and finally Birmingham (A). I'm not saying we'll pick up all 15, but on paper that's a nice set of fixtures to have on the run in.

Trouble is, smack bang in the middle of all that is a tough April. Spurs (H), Liverpool (A), Man United (H), and Portsmouth (A) are all going to be tough. If things swing our way, there are definitely points to be had. But we could also have a very bad month. The test of character starts here.

Quality article martinr, it is now EXACTLY what you said, we face a real test of character, HOPEFULLY we can rise to this challenge?!?!
Finishing ahead of Villa and Manchester City is a MUST as they have both applied for the Intertoto Cup.

I heard that Man City may qualify for the UEFA cup due to a fair play award... something that I can't see us ever winning with our biased card happy refs and their evil masters the FA! So that means we definitely need to be above Villa for any hope of qualifying

City (03) and Villa (98) have already qualified through the Fair Play place. Didn't realise City were doing so well in terms of discipline this season...

Central defenders??? It's bloody central midfielders we're short on mate, if anything we should have strengthened there!

If TLOZ is right does that mean we can qualify via the intertoto - ie 5th place automatic, 6th intertoto (unless in via faiplay) then down to the next team? I'm more confused now!

LOL... dont think the fair play league are gonna be knocking on our door anytime soon with good news. Lets worry about that when we get to it. Lets start with 3 points tomorrow.

Championship Cost Per Goal So Far In 2016/17

The end of the Championship campaign of 2016/17 is only a month and a bit away from fans across the country but as we go in to the remaining weeks of the campaign...

Positive Signs For Bennett

Bennett was positive of Blackburn being able to see off Lancashire rivals Preston heading into this game at Ewood Park after the Norwich and Fulham results.

Minor Graham Setback

Blackburn had to do without Danny Graham against Preston following the groin problem that forced him off against Fulham last week. He could return against Brighton next week.

Hugely Frustrating

Mowbray admitted Blackburn didn't start the game well against Preston but had then been the dominant side so was 'majorly disappointed' not to record a victory.
