Derbs Comes In For Special Praise

Blackburn Rovers striker Matt Derbyshire (my favourite son, but not literally of course lol!) was given special praise by Rovers manager Mark Hughes after his winning goal at Newcastle.

It was looking almost certain that we would come away from St James' Park with a point after a 0-0 draw, that was until the Newcastle United defence decided they didn't want to be so united afterall as they parted like the Red Sea to allow Derbyshire a free run on goal, which he gratefully accepted to net the injury time winner, showing a finish of the highest order. It capped a superb few days for him, as he had just become the father of twins.

Hughes told Sky Sports: "It was a great finish from Matt Derbyshire.

"He has had a great couple of days he has just become a father with twins waiting for him back home, so it is fantastic for him and his family for him to score the way he did.

"It was a great ball as he did not have to break stride and it was a very cool finish
."

It was a SUPERB way for him to celebrate becoming a father.
What a superb finish it was though, how many times does he do this? If you give some the time like this they bottle it (like Michael Owen in the same match, although Bradders deserves credit to!!!) but he seems to finish the one on ones most of the time. I personally think it showed again why I think he has been underused this season, if he had been used a little more than he has then would we be even better off than we are?!?!

It was a great finish and it showed little Mickey down the other end the way to do it. If anyone on our team had to go one on one i the lst minute of the game I would pick Matty everytime.

Classy finish, i really dont think with the current confidence of benni mac and santa cruz, that they would of buried it

Roque woudl definately miss as he is only an instinct striker and nopt a composed one. Benni is low on confidence too. So your right sas, Derbs wasthe man for the job and he duly delivered. It was an emphatic and precise finish. Let's see more Matty!

Cool as you like on the finish, brilliant stuff.

I think Benni would of scored had he been in the same situation but Roque prob would of missed in all fairness.

How could you break Keegan's heart like that - you cruel feckers :-)

Good finish for matty it was but the amount of times he has been played this season is criminal on Hughes part, the guy needs more games
