Hughes: Really Important Win For Us

Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes was delighted with the last gasp win over Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.

Matt Derbyshire's injury time goal at St James' Park gave Rovers an unlikely 1-0 victory, but a victory that Hughes feels can see us build on to really keep up the pressure for a European finish at the end of the season, although he did have some sympathy for his counterpart Kevin Keegan.

Hughes told Sky Sports: "Obviously I have some sympathy for Kevin to lose one so late in the game as they are struggling for results, but it should not take away from the result we have been able to get today (Saturday).

"It is a really important win for us.

"We viewed this as a very winnable game and we have been able to do that, so we are back on track.

"We always thought we could catch them on the break as we have the players in the team to do that.

"In fairness in the second half our passing was not as good as I would have liked. We created a number of chances but in good situations we picked the wrong option
."

This is a result that Sparky HOPES that we can build on, and is targeting as many points as possible.

He added: "Well I think we lost once in ten games and that is not a bad run. We are back in the mix and we have a game against Fulham at home next and I would like to think we can get maximum points from that one.

"Today was a good start for us. We have got ten games left and hopefully we can get as many maximums as possible
."

When you get a win like this, AND as late as it was you have got to start thinking that maybe our luck has turned and it MIGHT be our season?!?!

Maybe so HDM. With fulham at home next and Villa away at Pompey we have to fancy our chances of closing the gap on them.

Yeah the Fulham game is a huge MUST win. We can and should beat them. If we can put in a more expansive display and aggressive in terms of attacking intentions then I can see us blowing them away, but this is a chance for the taking.
roversman
True. Also we need to start scoring more goals to build up the goal difference, which at the moment may cost us.

I think with our play at home and Fulham's shocking away record we SHOULD view this as a definite 3 points.

Anything but three points and I'll be disappointed I know that much dudes!!!
