Rovers Back In Action

Blackburn Rovers have had a LONG wait since the last Premier League match, but Rovers are back in action on Saturday for the Lancashire Derby with Bolton Wanderers.

Not since the defeat at Arsenal on Monday 11th March have Rovers been in action (due to the early FA Cup exit) but we have been away and should be well rested and refreshed ready for Bolton on Saturday, and this begins a VITAL six matches that WILL play a major role in how the season pans out.

Gary Megson brings his Trotters to Ewood Park, but Rovers will be favourites, so we MUST be fancying our chances of ending the month on a high before going into March, which will take on EVEN MORE importance when you look at the fixture list for April (it doesn't make favourable reading!!!)

The Bolton match begins a run of six matches that ARE more than winnable for Rovers, and should they all be won that will be a MASSIVE 18 points that could leave us in a Champions League place let alone UEFA Cup place. OKAY, we probably won't win all six but when you look at Bolton, Newcastle United, Fulham, West Ham United, Wigan Athletic and Reading you can't help but rub your hands with glee thinking this REALLY is a chance to make a huge impression on our season, and could make such a difference come full time in the last round of Premier League matches on Sunday May 11th!!!

Before ANYTHING else we MUST beat the Trotters, then hopefully the rest will take care of itself throughout March before a DEEP breath is taken and we take on Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Manchester United and Portsmouth in April before finishing the season with two more matches that we SHOULD think we can win against Derby County (Robbie Savage and all!) and Birmingham City.

We CAN win all of our next six matches, the toughest one should probably be the Hammered, everyone else CAN and we could argue SHOULD be beaten?!?!
Bolton and then March will be VITAL for our season, the more points we get from these matches the better chance we have of finishing in an automatic European Qualifying place at the end of the season.

Ow not the hammered, they did the double over us last season....big bames lads we need some big points

On another note it is vital for our confidence for the March games that we win 5 or 6 of them (i hope). If we can go into the tough March on a terrific winningstreak i think the shere confidence will bring us results against the top sides - like we saw at the beginning of the season...we got something from every game because of the confidence improved our way of playing (no long balls red.) To summerise: If we lose the "easy" games I think we will fall right through the league and we will get hammered in March, but if we win the 5-6 "easy" games we will have enough confidence to pull out a rabbit - even against Man U

A correction: When I talk of the "tough March" period, i actually mean the "tough April" :-) You know the games against the "big" sides. Then it should make sence.

I think we need to get back to winnin consistently at home. Our away form this year has been very good and not so good at Ewood. Lets make it a fortress again, that means maximising the crowds as well.
MikeyGamst
argh.. this is the run that I hate more than a run against the bigger sides. Too much pressure and points to be dropped not gained. p.s. who are we all expecting to start up front? Will Derbs get a run out? Or even big JR who won us the game last time round?
Bents4eng
I can see JR on the bench but coming on like last time. Expect Santa and Benni up front.
MikeyGamst
Yeah I agree, Santa Cruz & Benni to start, If we're not winning I'd like to see Sparky bring on JR a lot sooner in the second half than he did the last time we played Bolton. Sometimes Hughes frustrates me with the length of time he leaves Benni on the pitch when he's having hardly any impact on the game.
spinaker7081
santa and benni to start, with jr to feature at some stage, might even c treacy get a run if gamst aint firing
sasman
spinaker - I think the only reason he leaves Benni on is coz he knows that he is the one Rovers player who can pop p out of no where with a goal. He hasnt done it much this year but the potential is always there.
MikeyGamst
Absolutely Mikey, thats why I'd rather see him start every game instead of JR or derbyshire, but he has gone missing in games so often this season, I would now rather he be substituted earlier in games he is'nt really involved in. JR is agood impact player but it's kind of hard to make an impact when there's only 5-10mins left in a game.
spinaker7081
Too true. Which must make you wonder why Matty hasnt been used a bit more often???
MikeyGamst
matty has had a few injuries and knocks this year mate
sasman
Fair point but he has only started 4 league games. Considering the slump in Benni's form round xmas etc, he must of thought he would get more action surely??
MikeyGamst
April is brutal, do we need to make March count!! And as for Benni, he earned his starting place for me against Bolton. Probably covered more ground than anyone bar Gamst, he really got stuck in and influenced the game.
