Rovers To Offer Benni A New Contract

Blackburn Rovers are apparently preparing to offer Benni McCarthy an improved contract.

The newspapers today are saying that Rovers are ready to offer 30-year-old McCarthy a new 40,000 per week contract in order to try and deter potential buyers in the summer, as his current deal will be moving into its final year, and despite him not having the greatest of seasons (thus far) Rovers remain anxious to keep him under contract, and more importantly keep him at Ewood Park.

We SHOULD hear more news on this (and David Bentley's contract extension) in the coming days and weeks I would expect?!?!

Benni hasn't been ANYWHERE near his best this season for whatever reason but I do think that we should be keeping him as he still has plenty to offer. By offering a new contract, if nothing else it reduces the chances that he will leave for FREE!!!

Interesting, but geez he had to have a release fee clause didnt he. Surely we dont need these things anymore....

I think this is a sensible move. He isn't having the best of times at the minute but his quality will see him through. He has already got 9 goals this term and I'm banking on him to reach double figures in the league before the season is through. Good idea to extend his contract.

He has shown signs of himself reappearing recently. Keep the faith guys.

You don't become a bad player overnight do you, so this make PLENTY of sense to me.

Maybe its the vote of confidence he neds and to be fair he did acquit himself well on Monday.
